Default Casino Royale question for tooblue (spoiler included)

So I recall tooblue remarking that he thought the end of Casino Royale indicated them reviving a storyline. So I 5 movies in on watching the entire Bond series in order. Watching these I think that what tooblue is referring to is that he believes that they are bringing back the organization SPECTRE.

I can definitely see this as a possibility. The organization was brutal and had no problem killing one of their own for failure. Now the members of the organization were not referred to as a number, but the head of it was referred to as a very non-discript Mr. White.

So tooblue am I right in your theory that in Casino Royale they were bringing back SPECTRE. I hope you are right, I think it would be a great way to take the series.

That's definitely what I was inferring. In order to recapture the essence of the original Bond flicks and even books the writers need to reintroduce SPECTRE.

The chances of Eon reintroducing SPECTRE are slim. Kevin McClory has the rights to SPECTRE and Blofeld and he's been fighting with Brocolli and Wilson (the powers behind the official Bond films) for decades. That's why he remade Thunderball as Never Say Never Again, and why Eon had Bond kill "the man with the cat" in the teaser to For Your Eyes Only.

Understood ... It may not be called SPECTRE or be headed by a Blofeld, however the shadow organization in the Casino Royal story line most definately was more similar to SPECTRE than not.

Agreed. And the idea of the "hidden terrorist cell" is more relevant than ever.

The villain of Casino Royal most certainly was not the 'principle' villain but merely a henchman imbued with diabolical specialty skills … there was something sinister about the ending of the film and the hold the organization had over Vesper.

The villain reminded me more of the female ex KGB agent in From Russia with Love, wonderfully parodied in Austin Powers.

I agree it does not specifically have to be SPECTRE, but I think introducing a hidden terrorist organization is a great way to take the series. I think if you do that you start to have a running story going through the series again, instead of just a bunch of movies that stand on their own.

Use a lot of the elements of SPECTRE and just don't call it SPECTRE. While it would be great for it to actually be SPECTRE, I think the idea of a large terrorist cell is a great one for the Bond films.

There really were lots of similarities to SPECTRE in the movie.
