Default Did Memphis really win?

I don't know the rule on this. On the 3 pointer that was reduced to a 2, it looked to me like the foot inside the arc lifted off the ground first, and then the foot behind the arc came off the ground. Is the rule that it is a 3 only if both feet were touching the ground outside of the arc immediately prior to the shot, or can it be a 3 with only 1 foot outside the arc as long as the other isn't touching inside?

In any event, Memphis dropped the ball in that game. Poor free throw shooting, poor decision making (they should have held the ball instead of going up for the shot with about 18 seconds left when they were fouled), etc.

He was in the shooting motion when he leaped, IMO, so it doesn't matter which foot left the ground first.

It was the correct call (the reversal, that is).

For a three pointer, both feet have to have started on the ground behind the line. You know how Jordan jumped from the foul line for his dunk...if he somehow could have jumped from behind the three point line and did a layup or even a dunk, that would count as three points if the ball leaves his hands before he touches the floor.

Now all we need is a guy that can jump 22' and stay high enough to be able to dunk it.

For the record, the rule actually states "One foot must be behind the three-point line, and the other foot must not be in front of the line".

That begs the question, was his foot off the ground in front of the arc before the other foot? If so, Memphis should have won. It looked to me like it was.

Again, IMO, it was his shooting motion, which included both feet, which qualifies him for a 2-point shot.

In essence, the "other foot was contacting the floor inside the line", rendering the basket as a 2-point basket.

It's an easy call. It wasn't a 3 pointer.

Agreed.

The reversal isn't why Memphis lost. It was inept FT shooting. If they make just one more FT, they're champs.

Not to mention some boneheaded movies as well.

Fouling 40 feet away from the basket with under a minute left...letting Kansas put points on the board with the clock stopped.

Also...if you're up by 3 with 10 seconds left and all the team has to do to send it into overtime is a hit 3.....then foul him before he shoots the ball. I know some don't like this strategy cause they prefer to play them "straight up"...but hey if the National Title is on the line...I'd do it, in a heartbeat.
