Let me start dreaming
BYU beats Xavier, and then in a shocker knocks out OSU.
Suddenly BYU is the talk of the tourney (mixed with OSU being overrated etc), Plaisted is talked about as an amazing talent, etc. Ahh..........please do not interupt my reverie. |

I'd love for Plaisted to go against Oden and tear him up with his left AND right. And I'd love to see Keena Young burn whoever OSU throws at him in the post. Now all of a sudden BYU starts getting love, but because we're a "mid-major" we start getting the George Mason treatment.

The reality, however, is that I am pessimistic about BYU's mental game, and if I had to bet my life, I would bet against BYU.

It's a fair fantasy. I can hear Jim Nantz calling the games right now:
...BYU is the first MWC to win in the postseason since Utah ...BYU is the first MWC to advance to the Sweet Sixteen since Utah ...BYU is the first MWC team to defeat a higher seed since Utah ...BYU is the first MWC team to defeat a #1 seed since Utah ...Plaisted could be the MWC's first first-round draft selection since Bogut ...Ainge is the first MWC player to post back-to-back double-doubles in the tournament since Hawkins ...BYU is the first MWC school to win the conference in football and basketball, win their bowl game and advance to the sweet sixteen all in one year, since Utah ...BYU is the first MWC team to advance to the Elite Eight since Utah And so forth. |

Now you see the magic of college basketball (vs. football). Unheralded BYU is one game it is supposed to win from playing against the consensus no. 1 ranked team in the nation in a game that truly counts. If it stuns the country and wins that, it will face an easier opponent....

I don't know. Does someone who gets rich by winning the lottery and didn't do it by taking risks and the sweat of their brow feel good about their wealth? I've always wondered that. I guess I've always wished I could have inherited a lot of money, but still if you inherit you can live under the delusion that you're in a special class. I think the lottery is the better analogy for BYU in 1984.

Present day guys. Andrew Bogut is not walking through that door. I doubt that you spent your successful years wallowing in self derision that the Cougars had a better 80's than you.
