I'm just wondering why Cali hates the idea of Lieberman being relevant and how he would be relevant if the Dems had 60 seats. Or did I misunderstand what you're saying, Cali?
Nope, I think you are right. The fact that it plays out well for the Dems doesn't mean I necessarily favor it (which I thought I made clear by saying I like checks in our government, and a filibuster proof Senate is one less check). You got that exactly.

As for Lieberman, the Dems only have 60 seats if you include Lieberman. So Lieberman becomes very relevant because he becomes the most likely swing vote for the Dems. I can't stand Lieberman, so I can't stand the thought of trying to appease him for 2 more years. I would prefer that he have nothing to do with my party.

Just one quibble: 60 Dems (or 60 Repub) doesn't not mean "one less check," for heaven's sake. Checks and balances are between branches of government, not between parties. If Dems controlled all 535 Congressional seats and the White House, there would STILL be checks and balances.

I detested when Pelosi or some other Democrat out-of-power idiot would complain about how Bush and the Republican Congress collaboration was circumventing checks and balances. It was a bunch of bull.

Ok, I think I understand. It's a personal thing for you with Lieberman.

I like Lieberman because he pisses off liberals. And with him there, he will be what the Republicans need so the Dems can't get everything they want.

I can't believe so many Minnesotans would vote for Franken over Norm Coleman.

What a stupid state! And I lived there for 3 years and didn't even realize I was living among idiots.

Franken is a mean-spirited, ultra-liberal little shit. I can't believe any sane person would vote for him. But it shows that Obama had some impressive coattails on a national basis.

Have you forgotten that these are the folks who voted Jesse "The Body" Ventura to the office of Governor?

Stealing? Is that what you call it when votes are counted?

I thought stealing was more like what happened when votes weren't counted that should have been. Something like Florida comes to mind.

That's what you call it when disqualified votes are counted. Voting laws are in place to mitigate voter fraud, though with Democrats in charge one wonders why we even bother to pass them anymore.

Tex if Franken is brought in, he will be an embarrassment. Just like Mrs. Kennedy. Bad for GOP in short-run, but could be helpful in long-run.
