Default Adam, Even, and the Devil: A New Beginning

The scholarly consensus has been that the idea of the devil tempting Adam and Even was a late infusion into Judaism, possibly due to Zoroastrian influence from the exile. Even Blake Ostler, a Mormon philosopher/Bible scholar, believed that the idea was Joseph Smith's own expansion in 2 Nephi 2:25-27.

Recently, however, a pair of Bible scholars from the Netherlands produced research showing the Adam, Eve, and Devil story to be found in Canaanite myths that predate the Bible, and the original source of the account in Genesis.
