Wait a second - U. Wyoming dismissed a bunch of football players for planning to wear black armbands in protest of the ban on blacks and the priesthood? They should have been applauded, not dismissed.

During the olympics I've thought of the two U.S. olympians back in the 60's with the raised fists on the medal stands, and I've been thinking about that sort of protest, and its appropriateness in athletic events.

I've seen them reviled by white people - you know, not the time and place and all that stuff - but I think what they did was good and appropriate - competing for a country that didn't grant them the same civil rights as white people. I'd like to think that I'd have the guts to do the same thing.

Which is why it would have been great if any of the athletes had had the guts to hold a Tibetan flag during a medal ceremony. There is a time and a place for political actions and that would have been a perfect time and place.

If someone wanted to make a memorial to those 14 players, or to found a scholarship in their names, I would donate.
