In '66, my older brother had a special program (my dad said the program list looked more like a state funeral than a sacrament meeting), followed by a reception in the cultural hall with refreshments and farewell gifts. Just a few years later, I was a ten minute Youth Speaker, followed by the regular speakers who had just moved into the ward. I spoke of how happy I was to be going to Austria. Three old ladies came up after, said how much they enjoyed my talk, and commented how lucky I was that I would see some kangaroos. I'm over it though. Sort of.
Heh. I'm sure it's been through a few iterations.

No, we are not overwhelmed with the numbers of missionaries going out in these parts.
Then obviously it wasn't intended to address your stake.

that talk. In your case though, perhaps you are awful. Interesting how different ears hear different things.

More power to them.
San Diego. The talks are reprinted and you can even purchase DVD's of the entire conference.

They sound more like a bunch of whiny women. Can you imagine being married to one? Or are you?

Default We used to have one farewell or homecoming

at least once per month. We eventually started combining due to the volume. So perhaps Eyring wasn't up in the night as some would claim.

I am enjoying being home watching the Dodgers rough up the Cubs en route to the NLDS, though.

I love Conference Weekend!
I'm sure the USC game was better.

I think we found out who's behind the white shirt push from this talk.

Contrast your brother's farewell with my most spartan of farewells. I did not travel home from BYU to speak. I did not have family come to my student ward, but rather I gave a talk in my school ward, along with many others, one week before entering MTC/LTM. To that time, I had never given a talk before. I have no idea what I spoke about, other than a simple, understated witness of Christ, and I sat down quickly probably leaving the law school room instead of staying up front, to listen to other talks. My talk lasted three minutes. If my bishop had allowed me to skip it entirely I would have gladly obliged.
