"Pathways" program at BYU-Idaho
The church has started a program to get more members into college, through a hybrid online/institute thing. Called Pathways. Through BYU-Idaho. After finishing this program they can then move on to online courses at BYU-Idaho.
http://byui.edu/online/pathway I think in principle that's great. But I have one reservation about all of this. And that's with the continued dilution of the BYU brand. I was not happy with the labeling of Rick's as "BYU-Idaho." I don't want people to be confused about what "BYU" means. We already have BYU-Hawaii. I don't want people to say "I am a BYU graduate" when in fact they are a "BYU-Idaho" graduate. And now BYU-Idaho is absorbing lots of people who didn't graduate from high school, never took the ACT/SAT, and as far as I know, may never set foot on campus. If the church doesn't protect the BYU brand, that's a mistake. At some point people may not be able to tell what "BYU" means. |

Keeping the brand meaningful, yet staying ahead of the curve is important yet difficult.
Georgia Tech is offering a masters in engineering online.

I'm almost done with a degree from a prestigious university. It's not online, but it's an evening program, and admissions isn't that competitive.
