Default My CG Summer Reading List

Well, a partial list that is. I am just getting a good start. Just got the following from Amazon based on recommendations from you folks:

Slaughterhouse-Five (rec by mpfunk, others)
The Black Dahlia (rec by SeattleUte)
Catch 22 (rec by mpfunk, others)

If these books suck, there will be hell to pay.

Already finished "Lincoln Lawyer" by Connelly (good, as usual). Halfway through "Eats, Shoot and Leaves" (fascinating, funny book). Just finished "Rough Stone Rolling" (loved it).

Ah, I love summer.

Wow good to see that two of my recommends, although others recommended them as well, made the list. Slaughterhouse 5 is actually a very quick read. I knocked that one out in a day. Catch-22 is not a quick read, but worth every minute. I've read it twice and think I need to read it again. My favorite books hands down.

I've read Catch-22 and enjoyed it immensely, but have never seen the movie for some reason. Does anyone recommend that I see it? I saw it on DVD the other day for $7 at Circuit City. Would it be worth purchasing?

It is worth checking out after you have read the book.

I wouldn't BUY the DVD... not even for $7. But if you loved the book, the movie isn't crap, and it is worth checking out.

Homeboy if you have time you should really check out anything by Wallace Stegner. My favorite of his books is "The gathering of Zion" Basically he is the William Faulkner of the Intermountain West

OK, I will check out Wallace Stegner. Never heard of him.

I forgot to mention that I just finished "In Cold Blood" by Truman Capote. I have wanted to read that for a while and just got around to doing it. Fascinating book. After I finished, I rented the "Capote" DVD. I found the DVD to be quite interesting since I had just finished the book and the characters were fresh on my mind. But I thought to myself that the movie would probably be a bit boring if one had not read the book. I was not aware that Capote and Harper Lee were such good friends.

Stegner is very worthwhile and is much more accessible than Faulkner, whom I have never liked that much.

That's strange, I guess I'm the opposite. I've enjoyed the couple Faulkner books I've read, but I'm having a heck of a time getting through Stegner's Angle of Repose, for some reason.

Maybe I'll just hang it all and reread Catch 22 like everyone else.
