No irony. We are a peculiar people, a pioneer people. We are by definition, apart. Though some would try and draw us in among the heathen.

sounds like trying to convert Germans is a waste of time. If I were there I would focus solely on the Africans and the immigrants, and if a member German has a referral, then great.

I think maybe we all are ultimately in search of a place to conform. We differ in the flavors of ice cream we like best.

Some did that.

I wanted those who at least spoke German so that they had a chance to integrate. Baptize Africans who would be rejected by the members and then they fall away, or try a more moderate approach.

We baptized one Nigerian guy who returned home and I never heard of him again.

Nope. YOU are in a search to conform. Not all of us.

If you wanted Germans, and didn't want to teach non-Germans, you might as well have gone home.

We wanted to teach whomever would attend meetings and would listen to us.

So in your opinion, we should have dismissed all instructions from MP, ignored any opportunity to teach Germans and sought out people who would not attend Church or keep the commandments? Sounds like a wonderful recipe for success. Why didn't I think of that?

And if I didn't follow this wonderful program, I should have abandoned my mission. Next time I'll consult you.

No. What he should have done is spent two years wandering through museums, the black forest, Bavarian Alps, beer halls, chateaus, and medievel castles and cathedrals, with a nubile fraulein as his guide. I'm sure in his heart he agrees with me.

If I was assigned to be a missionary for 2 years in Highland Park, TX, I would just quit. Do something else.

Highland Park, per wikipedia, has a median income of 373,000.

The ward that occupies it is in my stake. It doesn't integrate with the rest of the stake.

It's a pretty bad attitude to dismiss the Africans because the German members are racists and xenophobes.

From what I have heard from friends who did European missions, this about sums up their experience.
