Wheelset - Recommendations?
Ok..I think my wheels are about had. I've got an entry level REI - Novarra road bike. I would like to upgrade to a whole new bike..but can't really see me spending the $$ to do that in the near future (sometime down the road).
So...what are some reliable, good bang-for-the-buck wheelsets? I've been looking at the Shimano R500 or the Xero XR-1 or XR-4's. Any recommendations for your "average Joe" rider?

Have you looked at buying a used bike? There are some really good deals out there.

Any feedback on the wheelset I listed? Are they decent? I don't want to get super expensive ones as I'd just go ahead and get a whole new bike. But, something that will be decent for your average joe rider. My spokes recently started breaking. In the bike shop, they showed me on my hub, where there is starting to get some significant wear and so, that tells me I've got limited time on my wheels. Sooner or later, they will all start to go.

check otu the selection on performance.com and buy what is in your budget. I can tell you about current coupons and the like if you decide to buy from there. and of course I would be remiss if I didn't mention that clicking thru http://cougarguard.com/bikes.htm gives this site a commission on your order.
But seriously, I buy most of my equipment from them. If you become a "Team Performance" member you get 10% credit also with every purchase. So combine that with a 10-20% coupone, and sometimes free shipping, pretty good deal. |
