Captain James Cook.
A remakrbale but enigmatic man who has gotten a very bad rap over the years. His feats of sailing and navigation are almost unparalleled, and his commitment to the principles of the enlightment would warm even Seattle Ute's heart. Moreover, he was remarkably fairminded in his attitutde towards the natives of the lands he came across, at least considering his times.

It is fascinating how the PC police expect persons from a distant time to share the same political views as we modern, "enlightened" persons.
