I'm really at a loss here. I'm a tree-hugging socialistic anarchist for believing that nationalism is counter-productive? Could somebody please throw me a bone and explain the reasoning behind this rather than throwing out these wild guesses behind my motivation? I'd be happy to explain my motivation if it isn't clear.

Of course you must acknowledge that your opinion of my posts is subjective, and heavily influenced by experiences you've had that I had no part in, so your premature judgment of me and your belief that you had me figured out better than even I do was really, really stupid. If you think I'm not grateful, you're wrong, and I did not evince that attitude as much you think I did. Perhaps looking up "nationalism" in a dictionary might help you. Very few people consider nationalism a good thing, which is one of the reasons I am confused by the hostility.

One can be patriotic without being nationalistic, and without thinking that brainwashing our youth through the recitation of silly oaths is a good idea. I'm sorry that you insisted on a binary outlook. I hope that I have enlightened you somewhat.

Nationalism has good and bad. To the extent it instills pride and a reason to group together, to work together and to be proud of our community's accomplishments, it's a very good thing. We all know of the excesses.


However, Italians, French, Spaniards, et all are very nationalistic. BTW, BDB is not the only one who perceives you as a spoiled, ungrateful brat. There are several here who share that observation.
