Default vs. Iowa State

1. Mika started out very strong. Losing him on the floor because of the double eye-poke cost us the game. We had no answer for their big without Mika.

2. Austin was hopelessly outmatched as a defender. When he was on the perimeter he couldn't stop drives. On the inside he couldn't physically defend. When Mika went out their big tossed Austin like a rag doll. And it was game over. Huge mismatch. That's the weakness of this team. We only have 1 big. Mika. I dare say we would have better off with Kafusi on the floor at the end of the game.

3. Worthington. Does not look like scholarship material. He has extremely slow feet. And no vertical. And no offensive game. Can't protect the rim. Gosh, I hope he has some upside that I am not seeing. At least Austin can spread the floor by shooting at distance.

4. Haws. His pattern is to disappear in the big games. He did the same last night. Missed some shots he should have made. Looked uncomforable all night. His ill-advised shot that was blocked cost us the game. If you are a scout you are convinced that Haws does not have the athleticism to play at the next level. Put an NBA body on him, he's toast. i hope Haws gets mentally tougher.

5. Collinsworth. Awful game shooting. Threw up some ill-advised bricks. We needed him to step up in order to win. He didn't. He played some good defense, rebounded, some assists. Not terrible. But not good enough.

6. Winder. Shot poorly again. He does not look steady on the floor. Missed a free throw which would have tied the game. Huge, huge miss. I expect more from a junior. At this point, with Bartley breathing down his back, you have to wonder if he is headed back to the bench and Bartley will take a lot of his minutes.

7. Carlino. He was a bright spot this game. Played under control. Hit big buckets. He looks much more athletic this year compared to last. He didn't look like an inferior athlete (unlike Haws). I wish that Carlino had taken the last shot instead of Haws.

8. Skyler. I liked what he showed me. I hope this guy gets some more minutes.

This was a game that the Cougars should have won. Home floor. Two of their guys fouled out, a third ejected. Frustrating. Shows they have not quite gotten over the hump. Still can't win the big games.

This game bummed me out like no other. A chance to make a statement and incompetence at the foul line does us in.
