The guy was pretty amazing. If he had any offensive skills and mental consistency, he probably would have gone down as an all-time great.

I hear you. Rodman had limited offensive skill, but it was probably more because of his lack of dedication to practicing his craft than a lack of talent. The stories of his incredible energy in spite of rampant drug and/or alcohol abuse and lack of sleep are legendary. That's probably the reason for Jackson's comments -- he saw how unstable Rodman was, yet Rodman was still able to go full throttle on the court for hours on end.

Rodman was a great rebounder and defender. And he was the king of the tipped ball, which often leads to steals by another player on the team. It seemed like Rodman was always getting his hands on the ball.

Despite only being 6'6" or 6'7", these are his rebounding averages in his prime (91-92 through 97-98):
