I just thought of something. In the upcoming year, I will have no need to buy most of those bigger ticket items that I purchased this past year, so my representative total is more around $1000 per year.

I wont need a new wetsuit, another surfboard, a new pair of running shoes, and another ipod shuffle in the next 12 months.

I may have underestimated my answer, as I forgot to include the gym membership and swim team membership for the kiddos. At $100 a month for the swim team, plus $70 per month for the gym membership, there's $2K right there.

Throw in bike gear, running shoes, race entries, riding and running grub, and I bet we're over 3 large per year. If we include travel expenses for out of town races, we are now well over $4K. Holy cow! Way too freakin much.

On me: about $120 for green fees, as I only played about half a dozen rounds of golf the last 12 months.

On my kids: A lot. A whole lot.

windsurfing isn't for the faint of heart when it comes to $.

Cycling, basketball, fishing, wind surfing, weight lifting, a little swimming.

One of the cheapest, best sports is Ultimate Frisbee.

I quit buying new bikes a few years ago and it has really lowered the cost of particiaption. Buy a good bike, maintain it, and it turns out they last a long time.

This is all really helpful, actually. I thought swim dues out here in DC were ridiculous. Now I see they're more reasonable than I thought.
