Default Cassette tape to mp3 format transfer query

What is the best or most efficient way to do this? I have some old books on tape that I want to laod onto my son's ipod and I am doing it by recording the tape output onto a cubase recording program and then converting that file to mp3 in a .wav editor. IS there a more efficient way to do this? All suggestions about software/hardware appreciated.
