Default John Beck: Happy feet and bad decision making...

Reg Schwenke's assessment of John Beck on Saturday is right on the money. I was very frustrated with Beck's inability to make a play when we really needed it. He was too impatient to wait for his receivers and telegraphed the few long passes that he threw at Watkins. I fault the O-Line for their penalties in the red zone but John Beck for not getting us a touchdown. Well, I'll put some blame on Joe Griffin for blowing an easy first down. Frustrating day for the offense.

Defensively I wonder why Bronco didn't adjust to the 5 and 6 offensive lineman that BC put in. Why not throw another D Lineman at them? When he did, it actually stopped their running game! BYU forced a fieldgoal by putting in four DLineman. I kept waiting for him to adjust by dropping the safeties, playing the corners tight on their receivers and throwing another lineman at them. Seemed like a no-brainer but I guess it didn't matter much in the end as the offense couldn't score anyway.

Here's Reg's article (will I be banned for linking to TBS?):

Default Emphatically agreed

The funny thing about this article is the way the TBSers (many of them) are responding to it.

Some are very defensive of Beck and are mad at "Zion's Lion" for having written the piece. I say it's about time that TBS said something honest.

To me, John Beck should be on thin ice. He was Crowton's golden boy. I know he's a good kid, his parents are nice, and he is an RM, etc. But how much rope are we going to give this kid. He shows moments of brilliance, but does not have the proverbial "it". In the third year as a starter John should be showing much more patience and decision making skill. I also did not like that he immediately went to the fetal position before taking a hit. Let me ask you, of all the QBs over the years, did any of the great ones show so much concern over their on-the-field health, especially in critical situations? Heck, even John Walsh showed me more in that department. I don't know if I would act any differently should a huge BC linebacker was bearing down on me. Then again, I should not be the starting QB--or any type of football player at the division 1 level. Beck wants to be, but is not showing me the cajones that it takes to succeed.

Sorry for this rant, but this is getting REALLY frustrating.

Default The article wasn't written by Zions Lion.

The article was written Reg Schwenke. Zions Lion is Talo Steves, one of the managing editors of TBS.

I've been a huge Beck guy, but I'm really looking for him to will the team to a win. I haven't seen it yet.
