MWC Opening Week Predictions
Here are the matchups and my predictions:
Arizona at Utah - Utah handles the WildCats. Both teams will start slow but the Utah defense will hold strong and the strong running game will pull the Utes to victory. I think it will be closer than Utah fans would want but a win nonetheless. BC at BYU - I still see BC in a close one. I am worried about the injured secondary and the injured offensive line. Is Kuresa hurt? Is Dallas Reynolds only starting because Lunchroom is hurt? Will the new splits and formations take a few games to perfect? I hope for a close battle and a BYU victory, but if I can't have that then I want to see a team that fights and believes they can win all the way to the end of the game. CU at CSU - This one is a toss-up. Holland to Anderson is a very good combination but I think Colorado wins because of a weak CSU defense. Washington at Air Force - Air force wins. Washington was awful last year. AFA wasn't much better but they get the Huskies at home. Additionally Deberrry's boys always start the year very strong. I think the option grinds out a win. Washington doesn't have the offense to mount a comeback if they get too far behind. Wyoming at Florida - The Gators smash the Cowboys bringing them back to reality and causing pollsters everywhere to drop them Cowboys out of the top 25. UCLA at SDSU - UCLA treats SDSU like a little brother. They own space in the heads of Aztecs. It might be close. Lynell Hamilton will make a difference and UCLA really isn't that great. Still I see a UCLA victory. UNLV at New Mexico - How cool is it that we get to see a conference match-up in week 1? It is a win/win for everyone except UNLV. Should be a long season of Shane Steichen making people question Mike Sanford's abilities as a Head Coach. See you guys at the game on Saturday! |

Nice breakdown.
I agree with most of what you've said. However, I think Washington beats AF and I'm going with BYU over BC 28-21.

....
special teams, a new offense, cause the cougs to lose the first game...
close and fair predictions.... i expect the afa/washington game to be a toss up although i think washington wins a close game, and i think cu handles csu fairly easily. |

You forgot one:
TCU @ Oklahoma, Sep 3. Oklahoma wins, but I think it will be closer than the spread. |

TCU - I completely forgot about them...
I really don't know much about them, which is bad considering they are our first conference opponent. Oklahoma seems to be a team in transition but I agree with you that they will win this game. Thanks for the reminder. Danged horny toads.

I'm with you Watercat
What is with all the Washington love? They not only sucked last year, but they REALLY REALLY sucked. Will Willingham make that much of a difference.
With that said--I believe in Bronco--we win going away against BC. 45-12 TIC I actually would not be surprised if we pulled this one off. I was impressed by what I saw in practice beyond the scrimages. Pratices were well organized and seemed to promote the consistency and precision that our new Coach has been preaching. I do know the consistency in execution will win games--even against superior talent. AFA is a shining example of that. Which brings me full circle to ask--Why all the Washington love? |
