Default Interesting night playing ball at an outlying stake center

6'5" baller goes up for the dunk, slams it home, grabs rim--CRASH. Rim comes down and glass goes flying.

The breakaway didn't breakaway. I found out after the fact that the rim came down on the back of a player (I had never seen before) and caused an "ugly" gash on his back.

First time I have seen a backboard devastated, not on TV.

One game I had to guard this dude, who was just dominating me in the post. He probably had 3 inches on me and he definitely had 55lb on me. Rock solid. No help from my teammates.

Pretty dumb to hang on the rim at a church. They should make him pay for it.

Breakaway rim, moron. And it was not like he hung for a sec, then broke.

It was bam-bam.

Plus the rim was wobbly in the first place.

Church could be (should be?) sued, in light of the injury to the guy below.

That would be a fair outcome. I'm sure they have general liablity insurance. But I heard the LDS Church excomunicates members who sue (regardless of insurance), and it's automatic. So he needs to conduct a cost-benefit analysis. But my advice would be sue.

I believe he was a non-member.

By the way, I helped win a game when we were overmatched by preventing the winning bucket (without falling), and in the process hit my head and could have had a concussion.

Personally, I would throw out the suit because there is the expectation of danger when playing basketball, and blowed backboards are not unheard of.

It is called assumption of the risk.

Like I said, they are not always guaranteed to work, by virtue of the numerous times we have seen the exact same thing happen.

I know you are just feeling light-hearted today and so are trying to yank a few chains, but for the record, this statement of yours is not true.
