Default The Book of Mormon: How is it true?

You always here how the BoM is true, yet people aren't always quick to point out why? Much of the time the sound robotic and insincere when they say it. I strongly believe that the whole church/faith rests upon the authenticity of the Book of Mormon-If it is an actual record of a people that took place, than everything falls into place, if isn't than it was written by conspiring men.

The doctrine is of no issue to me whatsoever, but to me it has been pretty difficult to avoid thinking that Joseph Smith didn't write it up. On the other hand I had a 61 year old Black woman tell me in the 5th or 6th discussion that the Book of Mormon was true. We baptized here a week or two later. She waited 13 years to get her sons approval. There is little evidence for its authenticity (and much more against it such as DNA, etc) yet you here stories about converts "feeling the power of its truth" what gives?

I think it is very difficult to empirically prove faith in anything, which includes the Book of Mormon. I don't intend this to be a cop-out answer, only to point out that those who go looking for hard proof of religion or faith will usually be sorely disappointed. It just usually ain't there. If it was, it would not longer take faith.

I suppose I spoke too broadly when I used the phrase "faith in anything." I can have faith in known events that even though they aren't happening now, experience has taught me will occur again. I was referring to religious faith.

Faith can be the cruelest element in the human experience. It's uncertain, unprovable, real, confusing and all encompassing. I don't think we are here by accident, but I have a great fear that we may never know the truth in our lives.

I don't really care whether the BOM is literal or not, but I thought I'd post this Book of Mormon challenge for SU. It should warm his heart.

That was clever. It will also probably convert about as many people from the book of Mormon as the original challenge converted to the book of Mormon.

I wholeheartedly agree with this post. Wise & honest, at least to my way of looking at things.

that video that mudfud posted was created by an anti-mormon. "latterdayAint".

More cleverness from mudfud.

Its like you wan't to seriously consider the evidence against it, yet at the same time, how do you explain certain experience that tend to confirm it?

I like the way it teaches the doctrine of Christ. It feels right to me and makes a difference in my life. I really don't care so much about this or that physical evidence pro or con.
