who knows. The point is the market does what it does. It may have short term reactions to political news, but in the long run it really doesn't matter which party is in power.

I agree with this, which is exactly why there should not have been a bailout.

The market will get better after it hits bottom and it market can't bottom out if the government meddles.

Since 1948:

6 demo presidents elected 15.7% return
9 repub presidents elected 1.9%

When a repub is in charge and a mixed congress/house, or repub controlled 5.0%
When a demo is in charge and demos congrol congress 12.2%

This idea that republicans do better for the market is bull shit.

I would definitely say wars are a factor.

Correction. We have not declared war since WW2. That's one among many sections in the Constitution we have ignored.
