Default Reading Solemn Covenant

B. Carmon Hardy, a former professor at BYU, now at Cal Fullerton, who wrote on Post Manifesto Polygamy. Well-footnoted and interesting. It looks like a great companion to "In Sacred Loneliness."

Hardy is fair-minded and a true scholar. Solemn Covenant is a great read. Compton had Hardy review "In Sacred Lonliness" prior to publication.

Don't let your bishop or sp see you with a copy of Solemn Covenant though, it is too much truth for the mullahs and taliban authorities in the church.

It's a great book so far and very fair. Too bad the Church went so hard on him for publishing his works.

What is the story there?

As I understand it, he worked at BYU during a time when publishing this stuff was not favored, was requested to cease his research, he continued and it looked as if he would be ex'ed for it, so he removed his name to avoid a stink He asked his children to remain active which they did for a while. He still remains friendly to the Church and doesn't rail against it. However, that episode cost us a good scholar.

My opinion is obviously different than leadership's, but I would only excommunicate those who urged others to follow them, in essence usurping the authority of the leadership and began setting up a splinter faction. It appears the leadership desires to scare academics into not going out on the limb too much.
