are guaranteed contracts ruining the NBA?
I've been thinking about this, and TMQ reminded me of it.
What a thrill it would be to have actual new people breaking in who could play, and sorry-a$# players who don't try, being cut. But I guess that is what the owners had to accept to get the salary cap. NBA sucks. |

The NBA has quite a few problems, guaranteed contracts are among them. There's no incentive to better one's game in non-contract years.

I like the way the NFL does it with the guaranteed money being the only thing that the team takes a hit on if it cuts a player...if the NBA did this, you'd see much more competition, imo, and as a result, a much better product.

I absolutely think guaranteed contracts are bad for the NBA,,,or for any sport for that matter.
I think the model the NFL uses is a better one. You have to make the team every year and if you don't,,you get cut and you don't get paid. In the NBA....no matter how bad you suck they can't really cut you. They can "Buy out" your contract...so you still get that money even if you don't make the team. It's a bad rule.

Dont hate the player hate the game. The NBAs players association has more clout obviously than the NFLs. Great rule if you are a player.
