Default Great missionaries

Marsupial went out with the sister missionaries today to teach an older Catholic guy. They were discussing prophets and the investigator compared prophets to the pope. The sisters very defensively tell him the prophet is not like the pope. The investigator asks how they know that the Pope doesn't receive revelation. The sisters respond by bringing up the child sex abuse in the Catholic church as proof of the Pope's lack of revelation. Needless to say he was not impressed.

I think we'll hold off on filling up the font.

Lindsay: Well, did it work for those people?

Tobias: No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.

That reminds me when I went on a split with a missionary. I later became very good friends with him. He was Samoan.

We walked up to a couple of women and their kids in front of their house. One of the ladies asked, what's the difference between Catholics and you Mormons?

My comp. says "We don't worship idols." I almost choked. They responded "Oh." And weren't offended at all. It was kind of funny.

I've learned that sometimes mullah-ish answers to questions are actually appreciated, strangely, by investigators.

I once had an investigator show up, totally unexpectedly, to church. We hadn't seen him in a couple of months, and he wasn't really considered a serious investigator. In Priesthood, a couple of guys went off on tangents about facing down evil spirits and demons. I was freaking out, wondering how the investigator was taking this. Later he told me he was impressed. The whole experience had a feel of authenticness which he had not experienced. This guy was later baptized (by me). I remember him fondly.
He's on the other side of the veil now. Hey, J.A., if you are reading this, a little shout out!!

Anyway, my point is, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Chances are the guy was never going to join, and it's hard to say if he is more or less likely to join after what the sisters said.
