Default Name the top 3 reasons Bush has been

a horrible president. Keep in mind he doesn't write the checks, Congress does.

First impressions would be:

1. Iraq War and mismanagement of Afganistan (the two are obviously related)

2. Disdain for legal and traditional precedents, civil rights, and the like. (things like torture, signing statements on bills, malfeasance in the Justice Department, etc.)

3. His contempt for the rest of the world. I firmly believe that we should not be beholden to other countries, and that they should not control our actions in any way. Having said that, the US had a tremendous amount of sympathy and emotional capital after 9/11, and Bush flushed it away. His father was much better at this than him.

Honorable Mention: Combination of huge spending increases with tax cuts.

1. http://www.ombwatch.org/budget/images/spender.jpg

2. Poor management decisions, i.e. loyalty to Rumsfeld, Michael Brown, Gonzales, Harriet Myers, Scott McClellan, etc.

3. Poor public defense and promotion of his administrations record and actions in Iraq, among other issues.

1. The extension of executive privilege.

2. The abridgment of the rights of the rest of us.

3. His confidence in Cheney.

3(b). His desecration of the English language.

The imperial presidency is here to stay. No candidate now, or in the future, is going to run on a platform relinquishing power back to congress. They all run as 'change agents' (I can't think of a lamer term) which only assumes more power to the executive with each successive administration (no matter the party).

1. Lack of management skills.

2. Unable to communicate a vision or plan.

3. I don't think he ever really wanted to be president. It shows.

I tend to agree, which is one reason it was a bad thing to happen.
