Default A report on my first bike commute today

Started at 7:25 from my house, rode to rail station. 7.5 miles. With lights and stops took 30 min.

8:02 train arrives. 8:32 train arrives at my transit station.

Board second train at 8:33. Train sits for 15 min. Train arrives at my stop at about 9:00.

Take shower, change. Ride bike another mile or so to my office building. Arrive 9:25.

Arrive sweaty, missing belt, sock ripped when putting on.

It took 2 hours, with about 8 miles of bike riding.

Had I driven, would have been 20 to 25min.

Hopefully I can time the train switches better and that can shave some time off.

That really doesn't seem worth the trouble.

How much do the train tickets cost you?

Is it too far to just ride the whole way?

1. Train is close to free. I pay $35 a year for all train and all bus.
2. It's not too far. It's too dangerous to ride the whole way.

Very heavily trafficked streets with no shoulder or bike lane, a million cross streets, and lots of fast traffic. No sane cyclist would ride on the two access streets to my work.

Imagine you lived on one side of downtown San Francisco, and you had to ride all the way to the other side and there were no side streets. That's sort of my situation, at least for the last part of the ride to work.
