Default The Korver/Giricek 1st rounder

So the Jazz traded away a first round draft pick. The details are sketchy as the sixers don't have to use it immediately. They can use it between 2009 and 2014.

Anyone know the details? It is protected and conditional.

Also, if it isn't able to be used by 2014, then it turns into a 2nd rounder.

Also the Jazz have a Knicks 1st rounder that I believe has to be used by 2010? Not sure on the specifics.

I believe this is the last year it is lottery protected too. So next year the Jazz will have the Knicks first rounder and if the Knicks suck, they will get a lottery pick.

I know how this works. Knicks get a lot better, make the playoffs. New coach, new players.

I (cowboys) was really excited last year about getting the Browns first pick for this year. Didn't work out that well.

IF the Knicks suck? That is a virtual lock.

I dunno. Dumping Isaiah immediately made them better.

One more year after this. It is protected to pick 22 I think this year, which would mean the Knicks would need to finish in the top 8-10 teams in order for them not to get it next year. And it sounds like the Knicks are sticking with their roster in hopes of clearing cap space for the summer of 2010 for a marque FA like Lebron, Wade, etc. If that is the case, they very well could suck and it could be a great pick for Utah.

Of course, the Knicks will win the lottery this year and the Jazz won't end up with a top 5 pick in 2010 like so many are hoping for.

No question. But they have to go through another year of adjusting with a new coach and essentially the same players. Virtually everyone is locked up through next year, some with gigantic salaries. They have the 2nd highest payroll in the NBA (behind only Dallas) at a ridiculous $90 million per year.

Who is going to help them unload the Marbury and Randolph contracts? Nobody. It is amazing how inept they have been. Basically ever since they graciously took Layden off of the Jazz's hands!
