If I were a TV producer...
I'd give America what they are inexplicably clamoring for, a variety show. Probably something like Solid Gold meets Donny and Marie. Seriously, it's a can't miss right now. America is choosing "American Idol", "Dancing with the Stars", "So You Think You Can Dance" etc... All very cheesy and done increasingly in a variety show type format.
Tonight my wife was watching Dancing with the Stars and I noticed that they had some country singer come on in the middle of the show to do a number. While she sang this tune that was completely unrelated to the show, a bunch of men leaped about in tights and cowboy hats. Does it get any more Solid Gold than that? Mark my words, a variety show will rule the American TV nation within a year or two. And I'll have another show to bitch about. |

I'd rather see a return of The Carol Burnett Show. Tim Conway making Harvey Korman lose his composure was always a great thing to see.

That would require the majority of the American public to choose a quality show. While it can happen, they generally go for the crap. I hope you don't think that I want a variety show. I'm just saying it's inevitable at this point. And if it were my job to figure out what kind of show would make a ton of advertising money right now that's the direction I'd go for the easy bucks.
