So the Methodists voted to adopt the "traditional" platform, which is somewhat punitive against gay clergy and gay marriage.

Seems like there was going to be a schism either way. If it had not passed, the conservatives would schism. And because it passed, the liberals will schism.

While I am not a Methodist. Nor do I particularly have a stake in what happens to them. It seems to be to be a sad thing, the ending of mainline protestantism. The liberal denominations (the ones accept gay marriage and gay clergy) are dying.
