USA Mens National Team nickname
Italy has the Azzurri, France has Les Bleus, and Australia has the Socceroos. What is the nickname for the USA Mens National Team?

I'll check.

When the Washington Bullets were looking for a new name, they ran a contest in the Washington Post for fans to vote. They gave the fans 5 options...Wizards, Dragons, Sea Dogs, Justice, and Nationals or something like that.
The overwhelming victor was Sea Dogs, because it was so stupid, and plus the fans figured it was rigged...of course, it was, and Wizards won out...so, I propose we call the U.S. team the Sea Dogs.

Along those lines, Rick Reilly wrote in SI a few weeks back about the songs the fans of each country sing in support of their respective sides. Most are nonsensical ("We are from Sweden, we have traveled very far, and we are drunk"), but when sung in unison, serve to inspire the fans and the team.
Lamenting that the U.S. only has the old "U-S-A, U-S-A" chant, and panning the winner of a song contest four years ago: Our legs shall never tire! Our hearts will see us through! Goals! Goals! Goals! For the red, white and blue! Reilly proposes a song of his own, which I think is great: We are the Yankees! We are not afraid! You beat us tonight! Thursday, we invade!

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!! Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |
