Default Bush to support guano subsidies?

I was talking to one of my lawschool mates who works on capitol hill and he says the scuttlebutt around his office is that the president has been convinced by certain oil investors who he knows from his Texas days that the next big alternative fuel source is bat guano, or a dirivative therefrom. Allegedly he has met with them over the last several weeks informally.

Apparently there is some talk that the Bush administration is going to throw its support behind legislation to creat huge new subsidies for research into guano. Some are skeptical that this is an attempt by the president to line the pockets of his cronies and get the side benefit of appearing to support alternative fuel sources while not doing so in a meaningful way. My classmate, however, is convinced that the president is seriously sold on guano as the next big thing in fuel.

If that is really true.....guano? What a ninny.

Guano is an interesting substance. I learned a lot about it in Carlsbad Caverns. It used to be mined as a valuable fertilizer before industrialized chemical fertilizers came into being. Many a man has gotten rich from guano.

Bush goes down the drain, once again.

Funny. No guano in the batcave.

Did you watch the Democratic debates last night? Great fun. Kucinich proposes impeaching Cheney, and Gravel wants to prosecute Bush as a felon.

No big surprise here. Bush does something to line the pockets of others with no actual value to the public. Nobody could defend guano research.

This is so typical of you Bush haters. Can Bush never do something that actually benefits the country? There is always some conspiracy out there. Saddam's oil, directing contracts to Haliburton, etc.

It's no wonder you went straight from the right to the left coast. Try spending some time in the great red middle to understand how "real" Americans feel.

Rant over.

Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Actually....
Of all the alternative energy sources, biomass, which generally includes stuff like poultry litter, cow manure and pig slop, is actually one of the most promising alternative energy sources as far as its potential for net energy gain. Granted, the "bat guano" aspect of this sounds far-fetched. If there is some modest grant to be awarded to a legitimate researcher in Bush's home state to evaluate the net energy gain from that specific waste, as long as its part of a larger effort to get some useful energy from these types of otherwise waste products, I say, "Big deal."
