Default Vino loses 1:19 today...

He is always good for a bad day but I don't think people thought it would come so early. It will be interesting to see if the team throws their support behind Kloden.

TO be fair, it wasn't just a regular bad day. He took a bad fall and rode the last climb with a huge hole in his shorts, a bloody thigh and a bloody elbow. He was more than 2.5 minutes behind for a whole and then his team paced him back. On balance I think he did OK under th3e circumstances.

His team car helped in the pacing as well.

True. It is sort of like home court in BB, or maybe like a superstar that gets all the calls.

Rough day for Astana. Kloden goes down twice. Vino once, possibly crashing himself out of the GC. He did very well to pull himself back within 90 seconds. I didn't see it, but only read about it, but it sounds like he ditched his chase team and almost made it back into the peleton himself.

Millar almost made good on his promise to win a stage this year.

Good stage.

Vino didn't "ditch" his team. His team pealed off one by one due to fatigue.

When the peleton is hammering, it's hard to catch up, as you know.

True. I thought this was a little odd. Rather than do a team time trial type approach, they semed to put one guy in front and have him hammer as hard and as long as he could following which he would peel off and the nex guy would do it, until they were down to Vino.

The fastest result I've ever had was not the pure TT approach, but the revolving, no-wait, paceline, where as soon as the approaching rider gets in front the next works to get in front.

Thta's not what they did. They were in a line, and then they started to do what youre talking about, btu then they seemed to just leave the guy in front on the front as long as he could stand it. It was a little hard to tell beacsue they didn't keep them on screen the whole time, but that is what it looked like.
