Default I got into a little with Herbs

yesterday when he called billboards in Vegas porn. We revisited it a little today and then this post occured.

Honestly folks, does anyone really believe that anything that arouses sexual feelings is porn. This is my opinion only. When things like that are said, it makes the person sound like someone who might belong to a Jeff's type clan.

If someone giving a speech said that, I would immediately disregard anything else they said on the subject.

I will read the full text later. To think I got villified on the board for suggesting we once taught that sex except for having children was considered no good.

You know honestly I don't know. I actually think some of those billboards are disgusting and I wouldn't want my grandkids to see them.

On the other hand, I don't want them thinking when they are warned about the evils of pornography, that is what they think of.

There is a difference between disgusting and down right sickening and demeaning. Too often in our culture we include so many things in our quest to condemn, it loses it meaning.

For instance, as a kid I was taught stay away from people who drink. They are evil. Even at this age I wonder what other things I was taught was crap.

I wasn't taught that they were evil, but I was taught that if you regularly hang out with people while they are drinking, you are more likely to begin drinking than if you don't hang out with people while they are drinking.

I think the logic behind that is self-evident.

You were taught better than I was. Also because of the age difference, I think things were taught differently.

In the 50's and 60's there was still a strong us against the world mentality. That mentality with the churches growth out of Utah has changed, but with the age of the leaders and the natural tendency for them to be more conservative, that mentality does linger to a lesser degree.

Do you really think we are past this mentality?

I don't.

Of course, I wasn't alive in the 50's and 60's to contrast...

No it still lingers. However, it isn't anything like it was in the 50's and 60's. Back then you were to stay away from not only infidels, but also inactive members of the church as they also could bring you down.

Is it still out there alive and well. Heck, I think how TBS and CB are monitored are other example that it still exists. There are controls in place to protect against the free thinking rabble rousers.

Ok, here is a thread started on CB. Is it porn. According to the statement it is. There had to be two or three on cougar board that had a sexual thought during this thread.

This can't possibly be right - I get sexual feelings all the time when I see my wife in certain clothes or flaunting the lack thereof. Usually I act on said feelings.
