Interesting comments on Ramnation
about hiring Crowton.
While BYU was embarassed about the scandals and many say Crowton lost his job over the scandals, I find it interesting that for a lot of people the respect we think we get for having the honor code is seen through blue glasses. One of the comments from a Ram poster was essentially, Crowton got railroaded. Ran out of town because kids screwed up. I don't think that shows an outsider really respects BYU's honor code. |

I wasn't aware that any outsiders respected the honor code. I'm not really sure why they should either.

Crowton got fired for three straight losing seasons. I will defend that position to my death. |

I would think Muslims and the Ammish would or at least should have an amount of respect for the honor code. Those who look through blue glasses think anyone who has any values sees the world as they do. Therefor if BYU has some kids who get caught doing something wrong, it is a total embarassment and tragedy. The only ones who really care are those who want to mock BYU for portraying the "we are better than you" image and then falling on their noses. I think it is only human nature. Any time I see one of these religious right evangelicals, who claim I am not Chrisitian, get caught in a sexual sin or homosexual situation, I smile with glee. Bad me. |

The difference is I don't see their fans going on and on about how great they are and what wonderful people they are for doing so. I don't think Urban M would have let players get away with the undisciplined way Crowton ran things. Crowton did not run a tight ship and it had to do with a lot more than the honor code. He would have blown up at Utah. |

The second point is why I wonder if anyone should care. We suspend people for things that would never even be considered a problem at other universities. |

Rightly or wrongly, I had a couple say to me, that is how you get rid of blacks down there isn't it. Don't tell me the perception doesn't exist about Utah. Why do you think NBA players arent' gung ho about coming to Utah. We are thought of as racists far more than I had even imagined. |
