Much of the mess is thanks to the Republican-controlled legislatures in Michigan and Florida who moved their primaries back far enough to invite sanction from the DNC.

But the Democratic Party was really asking for this by creating the Superdelegates in 1984. They had to know it would come to this eventually.

The whole thing is truly absurd. It makes the BCS look logical, efficient, and effective by comparison.
