Default The genius that is Peanuts ...

The subtlety of the humor and richness of the characters is remarkable for a comic strip. The consistency and angst of the stories offer a perfect abstraction for real life. I especially like the device of mumbling parents/adults in the animated versions of the Peanuts world. By way of tribute I offer the Royal Guardsman

I haven't heard that song for years. Awesome.

Snoopy rocks. He's my favorite cartoon character by a long way.

To my young eye, Peanuts just didn't compare to Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County, and the Far Side.

Maybe Peanuts was better than its earlier competition.

I love those strips that you mention, but I think you are correct about your age. I will even go so far to say that they are probably funnier than Peanuts. But for me, I grew up with that strip and Schultz did it for much longer than Watterson (10 years), Breathed (9 years) and Larson (15 years). had they done it 50 years as Schultz did, they wouldn't have been as funny as they are.

Perhaps those three knew when to get out.

Calvin and Hobbes, Bloom County and Far Side would not exist if it were not for Peanuts Mike. You can find Peanuts panels in the Louvre.
