So what's up with the father? Tony Kornheiser rips him a new one each week and now the father has been banned from rehersals.

it appears the father is a douche. At least that is the public perception of him. I don't know him personally. The dad got banned from rehersals becasue he insisted that his kid insert "beautiful girls" into his Stand by Me rendition. This decision bent Idol over the barrel and cause them to pay unexpected royalties or face litigation.

The worst is when I'm passing by, and they're signing a decent song, and then that song is stuck in my head for a week....and everyone who hears me singing that song the next day accuses me of watching Idol. Ugh.
