Laughter not appropriate for Sacrament Meeting
But it's awesome in General Conference.

Mormons laugh at the dumbest things in these meetings.
I've run into folks who really do take this to heart. Our last Bishop asked the members not to talk to each other before sacrament meeting started, in order to have the Spirit. He wasn't crazy. He was merely following some of the general authorities. |

there are some members who feel that church is for joyful fellowship and worship.
others have a more doleful, mournful approach where dead silence and hung heads are ideal. I'm sure SIEQ could tell us about the sources of these competing visions, when referring to early American and non-American Christian traditions. |

There are all kinds of worship, some joyful and some reverent. Not all are appropriate for every circumstance.
The type of worship that surrounds the taking of the sacrament should reflect the sobriety we would feel, were we kneeling at the foot of the cross ourselves.
