And McCain can't even keep it close?? That's embarrassing.
And you thought McCain would be the best candidate for the GOP. I'm interested in hearing your other political insights Barbara.

He was by far the best option. Obviously he's got some awfully weak advisors. For example, you can't try to do the "I'm a man of honor" schtick while still running one of the most negative ad campaigns in history. You can't do the "we represent regular people" thing when you own eight houses.

If you're expecting me to argue that McCain has run a fantastic campaign, you're going to be disappointed.

But to say this was his to lose is to be near completely ignorant of the political climate these past 2 years, not to mention the rise of the Obama Messiahship. I honestly don't see how you get there. The deck was always stacked against the GOP nominee.

Oh, definitely. You can see how well John McCain handles himself when he departs with his advisers. The way he handled the economic crisis was a stroke of genius. Natural born politician he is.

So his message should have been "I'm a mean son-of-a-bitch who will say anything to get elected" and "I like working people, especially when they are cleaning my seven houses."

McCain is now behind us. We will move on. Dems will be stuck with Obama for four years.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Here's the thing about this 'regular people' stuff: You can't fake it. IMO, either you are or you're not a regular person. Regular people can smell the difference a mile away. No matter how many times obama drops a 'g' from a word ending in 'ing', everybody knows he is not a regular guy. Conversely, if Palin added a 'g' every time she used a word ending in 'ing' everyone would still realte to her as a regular person.

So you can dress up Palin in all sorts of expensive clothes, but she still gives off the regular person vibe (lipstick on a pig still leaves a . . . oh never mind). People might be disgusted that she spent 150k on her clothes, but regular people will now see her as a regular person who spent 150k on her clothes, not as an elite who revealed her elitism. In fact, my guess is that many regular people will have a "you go girl" attitude abotu the news."

This is true of McCain, as it was of Kerry, and W and so forth.

Absolutely the GOP nominee had Bush to contend with.

But if you look at the polling history, McCain was actually leading the majority of the time in March, April, and May. So you can't blame his struggles on Bush. Bush has been there all along. And you can't really blame the economy until mid September. The majority of his lost support was due to the utter mismanagement of his campaign.

March, April, May. Months when voters are really paying attention.

Come on, Barbara, you know better than this.

Well, I have my theories about what he should have done, but as this race is largely in the past, they will remain just that: sheer speculation.

If the voters are only half paying attention to the nominees, then the influence of the incumbent should be that much more apparent, no?
