Default Why does BYU continue to recruit

5/9" CB's?

Every team has some 6'2" or taller WR and we throw 59er's at them.

We all know that 6'2" CBs grow on trees...

4 of the 6 NFL Pro Bowl CBs this year are between 5'9" and 5'11"

From a coverage standpoint, horizontal separation is just as damaging as vertical separation, so a corner's ability to close gaps and stick in coverage is paramount. This puts a premium on speed, quickness and the ability to adjust to whatever moves the WR attempts, so you'll see CBs who are smaller but jet quick. They're vulnerable to "post up" plays by larger WRs but if they couldn't coverage horizontally it would be a cherry picking festival between the 20s.
