Great recruiting tool
for other football coaches compliments of Bronco. So you're a highly touted football player and you are considering BYU as your school of choice. If I am the opposing coach, I pull up the graphic displayed at the Las Vegas Bowl about football being priority #5.
"Son, if your ambitions are to play in the NFL, do you really want to play for a coach and school who believe those aspirations are #5 in order of priority?" A picture tells a 1,000 words. Bronco is clueless. The guy doesn't like game days. He's practiced TWICE, yes TWICE in pads the entire year. He practices 6 times for a bowl game after getting his arsh handed to him by Utah. Execution goes down as the season goes on. And if BYU is OK with that and beating up on lousy teams, fine. But don't expect fans to be fully invested with their time and money, if BYU and Bronco are not.

I wouldn't phrase it exactly as you said, but I do believe there is a question mark surrounding Bronco right now.
He has gone out of his way this season to make the point to the media that he is reinventing coaching. Short practices led by the team, coaches not spending time after-hours. This sounds great if you are undefeated. Less great when you put out a disappointing product on the field. It does appear that Bronco does not have that all-consuming manic desire to win like some coaches have. This may be to his personal credit, just as I am losing my desire to spend oodles of hours following sports. But it's not generally good for BYU football. |
