Wait a second Beck was subpar in the Utah game? Didn't he have 4 tds and 380yrds passing with no int? What did I miss from him this year 600 yrd games with 6 tds?

How do they treat others from different backgrounds and beliefs that walk amongst them in Provo? They pretty much ignore all four of those people.

Well, we did have a message board for a very brief time in early 2004, but scrapped the idea, feeling we already had our hands full with this fan site. Plus, who wants to deal with the negative energy some posters bring? It seems too many trolls these days use message boards as a means to lash out at others, in order to relieve their daily stress.

Speaking of that, we noticed earlier today that there were a lot fans from a Brigham Young fan site surfing on to DD.com and decided to check it out. What we saw wasn't pretty: Cougar fans hurling a steady stream of insults at our site for daring to rank Utah quarterback Brett Ratliff a shade ahead of talented 25 year old B.Y.U. quarterback John Beck in our senior rankings page.

Our mistake is we thought we could reason with the people, telling the truth: We've linked a lot articles on Beck and we like him as a player, athlete and person. However, at this point, we think Ratliff "might be" the better prospect. We also mentioned that our opinions could change in time, as all-star games and workouts could make a difference for both.

It didn't work. Things went from bad to worse, as several of the posters got even more hostile. We were told to "go away"....We also found out DD.com's writers and Brett Ratliff have something in common: we are both worthless "garbage".

Honestly, we've been in contact with fan sites from dozens of college of pro teams all over the country and never seen such rancor. We've had posters disagree with us, but do it a respectful way. That's okay with us -- men and women can disagree, yet still treat others in a dignified way. But, for whatever reason, that wasn't going to happen at the Provo based Cougars board.

In sum, we have to openly wonder how those same B.Y.U. fans, that were so militantly intolerant over our simple opinions on two fine quarterbacks, treat others from different backgrounds and beliefs that walk amongst them in Provo?

DD.com Comment: We don't think either Ratliff or Beck is an elite prospect, at this point. Ratliff has struggled in some big games this season and we think he could drop out of our top 10 (he's #10 currently), once the top juniors declare -- unless, he has a great post-season. Meanwhile, Beck has been a true star for the surging Cougars. However, Ratliff's a bit taller (what N.F.L. scouts look for), is fairly mobile, has a decent arm and is a full 4 years younger. Beck better be lights out in workouts, considering he'll be a 26 year old rookie in the N.F.L. and "might be" undersized.
Ranking a Ute QB above an all conference BYU QB? This guy's response shows he has no idea what he stepped in.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

How much do those ranking compilers factor in the idea that since Steve Young, every product from Quarterback U has been notoriously unconditioned for the NFL? Perhaps Beck's heritage is calling.
