Weeping, wailiing, and gnashing of teeth in general. Guys like Chris Spielman on talk radio were aptly described this way (although I didn't get a chance to hear Herbstreit this week). Most of my departmental colleagues are foreign so they got a lot more emotional during the World Cup but even they expressed dismay (although it seemed to be gone by 2:00 on Tuesday). I guess more than anything people were shocked. Everyone was so confident that Ohio State would win. For example, stores were going to open as soon as the game was over so they coud sell national championship swag. I guess I can't blame people for being confident because the spread implied about a 75% of a OSU win.

My middle daughter (6) thinks she is a big Buckeye fan. Of course, when you ask who her favorite player is she says "you know the guy with the buckeye for a head." The next morning she asked my wife if it was okay if she liked Florida instead.

I work in a town about 45 miles west of Columbus. A lot of my co-workers are OSU grads and some of them commute from Columbus. Throughout the office there was a feeling of "what the hell just happened" this last week. It was quite nice. I have given them a week-long grace period where I was nothing but sympathetic. This next week I plan on buying rock salt in water softener bags to grind in their wounds.
