My wife and I are in the process of constructing our family now. We have had a number in mind, but it is subject to constant negotiation. If one of us feels strongly that we should continue, or stop then we will evaluate it at that time. Of course, this is subject to outside circumstance, in the same way that family planning is. For instance, my daughter and her soon to be younger brother will be 7 years apart, largely due to the fact that I have been a full time student for nearly the entire length of her life. Ideally, we would have had them 4 or so years apart but other factors dictated the length of time. So, I think we are on the same page that 4 will be just fine, but that is subject to change over time, as circumstances change things (like troublesome pregnancies, difficulty concieving, age, behavior of children, job status, etc.) |

We had planned on four, but our oldest is so high maintenance that once we got to three my wife said "that's it". (Plus she has "all day" sickness for the first four months of her pregnancies) I guess we're done, which is fine by me, but as a woman, she's allowed to change her mind at any time, for any reason, so we'll see if this sticks.

I think we always knew we would have at least three, maybe four. When we got to three (two girls and a boy) my wife told me she thought she was through. I'd resigned myself to three (I wanted another boy) and had settled into that way of thinking when she surprised me with her desire for another one. She bought a book on determining the sex of the child (we wanted to even things out) and we had another boy. As for having more, the feeling is mutual. When we see someone else with a newborn baby we both go "aaahhhhh" while thinking, "I'm so glad that isn't us."

We have two. They are nearly four years apart. I always knew I wanted children but the question of how many was something I never really thought about. Danimal used to think he'd like five (just like the family he grew up in) but then we had one and he was about as much work as five. We know we want at least one more. I would be surprised if we had more than four when we were done and if we do, it will probably be because it was a surprise.

I always thought I would have a big family, but the wife's endometriosis is definitely a limiting factor. We have one little girl, and another on the way. Early indications point to a boy, so if that is the case, we are done.

Did you have girls first, both boys second? What a coincidence.
