your comment "(if she attends)" gave me that impression. no byu = church activity much less likely.

On the other hand, it works to BYU's advantage in some cases. BYU's recruiting pool is very small. But many (most?) LDS Ph.D.'s are at least interested in BYU and you often get outstanding faculty that could work at larger, more prestigous schools. It is kind of similar to the situation in football. Recruiting mainly LDS kids has both advantages and disadvantages.

I'm sure there were particular people they had in mind when they passed the rules. Just like the auto-ignore on cougarboard. |

Some of them are very interested in the environment and have faith (albeit of an unconventional sort). They write bitter things in Sunstone and Dialogue, and sometimes have very serious issues with leaders, but they self-identify as Mormons and remain more or less active in the Church.

That's my point, and why it seems so silly.

In many subjects it almost never does. In others, where theology obviously intersects philosophy or theory, the Church wants teachers to handle these things in a faith-affirming way (or in what it sees as a faith-affirming way). This doesn't always happen when professors are wrestling with the issues themselves.

Is it your contention that all university instruction in every subject is given in a completely neutral and unbiased manner without reference to current or recent social issues, political agendas or patterns of conduct? If so, we have another candidate for your list of silly items.
