A girl I dated down in American Fork did the SlumberParty MLM thing for awhile and from what I last heard, still does.

One night while driving in her car, she had to stop by the church house to pick up her kid from Cub Scouts.

On the side of her car she had the SlumberParty Advertising. She opened up the glove compartment and there was a brochure, so I perused through it.

When I asked her if she gets comments from women in the ward when she pulls into church with her advertising on the side she said that she got more comments from the men in the ward than the women.

My wife tells me that the women in our area have had a few SlumberParty get-togethers. Apparently this is despite the discouragement of local Church leaders.

Sounds to me like a battle between the conflicting Mormon predispositions in favor of MLM and against anything related to sex. Which side of Mormon nature will win? Who knows?

A lot of churches do this and it is such a great idea. I wish we did more in this respect.

Saw this today. Thought it was interesting and perhaps pertinent.

How sad is this?

Simply put, regardless of denomination, the more devout an adolescent virgin, the less likely he/she is to anticipate sex as pleasurable.
The study of teens did include Mormons, who were the least active of all teens, but by far the most likely to use contraception when active. So you guys are raising smart kids.

I don't know how to quote from an outside source like Babs, but is it really true that the Abstinence movement teaches that condoms to not prevent pregnancy and STD's? (read in the article above)

I don't know about the movement in general but I was taught that.

Here's your quote:

Quote:
Another key difference in behavior, Regnerus reports, is that evangelical Protestant teen-agers are significantly less likely than other groups to use contraception. This could be because evangelicals are also among the most likely to believe that using contraception will send the message that they are looking for sex. It could also be because many evangelicals are steeped in the abstinence movement’s warnings that condoms won’t actually protect them from pregnancy or venereal disease.

Just wondering, but how many of the teenagers of evangelical ilk, go out on a date without the intention of having sex, but they in the heat of the moment, "what the heck"?

Does that contribute to the lack of use of prophylactics?

To be honest the use of prophylactics means that you had them ready to use, meaning that you made a conscious decision to sin. This in my opinion is why they're not used. They tell themselves I am not going to fornicate so I don't need to carry a rubber in my pocket. I'm always amazed at the ability of teenagers and early twenty-somethings' abilities to compartmentalize.

Data do not support that, as the more active they become the less likely they are to use any kind of protection.
