John Elway...First 10 years in the league, QB rating broke 80 one time (83) was in the 70s the rest of the time and got as low as 65 one season.
For his last 4-5 years he was able to get it into the 80s and 90s and won a couple SBs (thank you, Terrell). He deserves credit for the improvement late in his career and for SB wins, but as an all-time great, he might be a bit overrated. |

My argument for Elway as #1:
5 Super Bowls. Yes, he was "only" 2-3, but no other has taken a team to that many. Brady just might do that, but until anyone else does, I pick Elway.

It depends on exactly what you are asking. If I had to pick a QB to win me an important game, I think my list would be different than my list of most accomplished QBs. And since as a QB, IMO, it is your job to do whatever it takes to lead your team to victory, I'm going to go with that route. I would rank my top 10 like this:
1) Montana 2) Bradshaw 3) Brady 4) Staubach 5) Young 6) Marino 7) Aikman 8) Elway 9) Favre 10) Manning I think of the guys on that list, Marino probably did more with less of a supporting cast than anybody else on there. I think that Marino and Favre would also move up if the list were based on accomplishments. Young may be a bit high, and that may be because I am a fan of his. I could easily swap him and Brady and not feel badly about it. ![]() |
