They should have just let the issue die. The Spurs had moved on, the Lakers had moved on, I am sure the refs had moved on. All this did was fuel the fire of bitter Spurs fans. Maybe they think this will help ratings? I doubt it does.

My take on the non-sense behind the ratings conspiracy....

IF there were a conspiracy to boost ratings by showcasing the Lakers, the league would have made sure that the Lakers did not sweep their first series, finish their second one in 6, and likely finish their third series in 5 games.

If there was a ratings conspiracy, why are the Lakers the team that has played the fewest games of any of the 4 remaining teams?

The only conspiracy going on is the fan conspiracy to try to deny the impending global domination and absolute awesomeness of the Laker Kingdom.

I just can't see why the NBA would issue this apology. It makes no sense unless they hope it will increase ratings for tonight's game. I am not a consipracy theorist.

The NBA has a vested interest in making sure that it retains credibility. If they do not acknowledge mistakes, then the public starts believing that there is a fix and the league becomes pro wrestling.

The Laker games have been the highest rated games in the post-season, so they are not needing the ratings for tonight. Everyone will be watching anyway.

So are they going to start looking at every play and issuing 50 apologies per game? It is a slippery slope and a stupid idea. It does nothing for their credibility IMHO. I don't think it is a consipracy. I just think it is stupid and serves no purpose other than it will likley give a slight ratings bump to tonight's game.

Maybe Barry should have flopped, that tends to get you the call. He needs acting lessons from Parker.

I agree -- there's a lot of non-Laker fan weeping and whaling going on in the Western Conference, but who can blame them? That single, unexplainable move by the Memphis brass to trade away Gasol shifted the balance of power for the next 3-4 years. Gasol for Kwame Brown and Javaris Crittenton?! Excuse me while I go punch myself in the face.

If he held out for remotely equal talent, he would have to give them extensions eventually. He wanted to dump salaries.

This is similar to the Marlins being broken up after their WS championship. Makes no sense from a competitive standpoint.

As you likely know, Jerry West was gone from Memphis for a year before the trade ever took place.

It was a steal, for sure. The Lakers got lucky. Not sure why it is hard to understand, though.

Now that we have laid all that out, feel free to punch yourself in the face. *pow!*

I'd recommend a punch to another spot on your body, solely for the comedy involved.
