I beg to differ about Sunday School 2nd counselor. That used to be my calling. In our ward, we had SS opening exercises in the chapel immediately after sacrament mtg. And the tradition was the SS president had to offer a spiritual thought. Well, the SS president was very frequently out of town, and he would call me. and I would be thinking "why the hell aren't you calling the 1st counselor." So I'd have to offer a short thought. It was sort of like being a paid professional preacher, give a sermon every week. Eventually he would call me, and then half the time, I would then call the 1st counselor and ask him to do it (he was cambodian or something, and didn't speak very good english, which is why I guess the SS president never called him).
